The first public library of Brasov, which functions on the basis of regulation, was created in 1835, as part of the "Casina Romana" (Society of reading). The book collection was transferred to the Astra Library, a Transylvanian cultural society, which has initiated the opening of the public library, "Dr. Alexandru Bogdan" in 1930. The building of the library, situated in the Baiulescu House, which was build in 1888, is housing at the present a few of the specialty departments of our library.
