The Eight Edition of The Golden Stag Festival - 1995
The
eight edition of The Golden Stag Festival took place in Brasov
between August 30th - September 3rd, 1995, in Sfatului Square
- in the old city. The Festival's hosts were Toni Grecu, a
commic actor, and Daniela Gamulescu, television presenter.
The opening cocktail was offered by the mayor, Adrian Moruzi, the prefect,
Alexandru Popa, and the manager of the festival, Dumitru Morosanu at Cetate
Restaurant - a medieval restaurant built inside the city's old fortress.
5,000 people seated in Sfatului Square and more than 14 million viewers watched
every night a 3 hour live transmission from The Golden Stag. The festival was
broadcast by: NHK-Japan, Tele 5 -Spain, Finnish National TV, TVRI Indonesia,
Philippine National TV, Lithuanian TV. 32 competitors from Finland, Germany,
France, Sweden, U.S.A., Canada were enrolled in the contest for the big trophy,
while 200 journalists from Europe and United States got credentials to write
about the festival and its stars.
On September 1st, the National Television organized a trip to Poiana
Brasov, where the competitors and their managers were happy to taste the
Romanian cuisine at Miorita Restaurant. The trip also included a stop at the
Horse Riding and shopping at the Artisans' Fair located in front of Sura Dacilor
Restaurant.

Carlisle, as well as Romanian artists like Gyuri Pascu.
The group Cramps in the Leg from Russia was awarded with The Golden Stag Trophy.
The eight edition of The Golden Stag Festival ended on September 4th, at the
Aro Palace Restaurant, with a dinner party for the singers, the stars, the
jury and the journalists.
1995 Stars

Status Quo
The
origins of Status Quo go back to London, the town where Francis
Rossi and Alan Lancaster set up a group called the Spectres.
In the next few years they had added to their band new members;
the drummer, John Coughlan, and the organist, Roy Lynes. The
Spectres released three unsuccessful singles before changing
their name into Traffic Jam. Under this new name they released
Almost But Not Quite There.
The next member adopted was Rick Harrison (guitar, vocals), formerly of the cabaret
band, the Highlights. In August 1967, when Harrison joined the band, they transformed
the name into Status Quo.
At the beginning of their existence as a group, Status Quo backed British solo
artists like Tommy Quickly. Meanwhile they were working on their own songs. The
group's debut single, Pictures of Matchstick Men, was released at the end of
the same year and quickly it turn into No.7 the UK charts, and No.12 in the US.
Shortly after they scored the charts with Black Veils of Melancholy, and Ice
in the Sun (1968), written by former British pop star Marty Wilde.
During the next year, Status Quo tried to revive the success of their first two
singles with similar psychedelic material. No chance.
In the summer of 1970, they changed their style debuting with their new heavy,
blues boogie rock. The first song released in the news style, Down the Dustpipe,
reached No. 12.
The group signed with Vertigo Records and under this label they released Paper
Plane, which hit the Top Ten in early 1973, while their first album for Vertigo,
Piledriver reached No.5.
In 1973, Andy Bown, formerly of the Herd and Judas Jump, became the band's unofficial
keyboardist.
Success after success followed Down Down (1974), Roll Over Lay Down (1975), Rain
(1976), Wild Side of Life (1976), Rockin' All Over the World (1977).

Unlimited, the Dutch tech group, was one of the most commercially
successful musical enterprises in the 1990s, selling more than
18 million albums throughout Europe and charting numerous No.
1 singles.
The magic formula: the rapper, Ray Slijngaard (a former chef), Anita Doth ( a
former meter maid) and the producers, Phil Wilde and Jean-Paul DeCoster (previously
known for their work with AB Logic).
In 1991, 2 Unlimited released the debut single, Get Ready for This, which charted
Europe, paving the way for the next project, Get Ready, an album sold in more
than 3 million copies. In 1993 came the follow-up, No Limits.
Real Things, released in the summer of 1994, went gold in the U.K. the day it
was released. The best songs from the album were No One, Here I Go and Nothing
Like the Rain. In 1995, Hits Unlimited was another huge success. Unfortunately
one year after, Ray left the group to become a record producer while Anita began
her solo career.
Wilde and DeCoster kept going with the
2 Unlimited project recruiting two new people.
Kenny Rogers
Kenny
Rogers, the pop-country singer, was born in 1938 in Houston,
Texas. He grew up playing guitar and fiddle, even though his
family was quite poor. Since he was attending high school Rogers
used to play with the local bands.
In 1966 Rogers joined the popular folk group the New Christy Minstrels. One
year later he left the group to form the group First Edition. When the band
fall apart in 1974 he choose a solo career as a country-pop artist.
In 1976, Kenny Rogers released his debut album, Love Lifted Me, featuring his
first hit. But his big success came in 1977 when his song Lucille became No.
1 worldwide.
Next big hits: She Believes in Me, Coward of the County and the famous single,
The Gambler.
All of his albums went gold or platinum. Meanwhile he recorded duets with vocalist
Dottie West, Kim Carnes and Sheena Easton that soon became No. 1. In 1983 Rogers
signed for RCA records, where he released Islands in the Stream, a duet with
Dolly Parton written by the Bee Gees.
Though less visible on the charts
since the late '80s, Rogers remained an appreciated pop-singer.
Belinda Carlisle
Belinda
Carlisle was born in 1958 in Los Angeles. After graduating
high school in 1976 she began frequenting the L.A. club scene,
where she met her future band mates Charlotte Caffey, Gina
Schock, Jane Wiedlin and Kathy Valentina. Together they formed
the Go-Gos group, in 1978, an all-female power pop band very
popular in the '80s.
By May 1985, the band drifted apart and Belinda went on to a solo career, releasing
one year later, her debut album, Belinda. Thanks to her previous success as part
of the Go-Gos, she became a popular solo singer.
Her second album, Heaven on Earth, reached No.1 in the U.S. while the single
Heaven Is a Place on Earth scored the Tops. The album won a Grammy nomination
and sell millions of copies.
Next best albums: Runaway Horses, Live Your Life Be Free and Real.
In 1994, Belinda joined her former band mates for a short-lived Go-Gos reunion,
but returned to her solo career in 1997 with A Woman and a Man.

Aureo Baqueiro
Aureo Baqueiro was born in Mexico on March 1967. He grew up
in a family with strong musical background. Aureo is Luis Demetrio's
nephew. Luis Demetrio is a great composer in Mexico.
As a kid, Aureo leant to play the piano. In 1987, Aureo Baquiero began his work
for musical series for television.
He also started to compose songs for artists like Sasha, Flans, Timbiriche, Thalía.
In 1995, Aureo Baqueiro participated at the Romanian Festival The Golden Stag.
He was enrolled in the competition with his first album Homónimo.
Baruch Friedland
Baruch Friedland is an acclaimed Israeli lyricist, composer,
producer, publisher and singer.
During the last ten years he released over 250 songs, performed
by various famous Israeli singers, including six albums,
a rock opera, three plays, radio & television
commercials, scores for TV and radio shows.
His song Stumbling on Heaven performed by him under the name The Doppler Effect,
topped the Israeli charts!
Since 1994 Friedland started a new music label named Zikidisc and a publishing
company named Baruch Friedland Publishing.
During his career Baruch represented Israel as a singer-songwriter in international
festivals in Macedonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Kazachstan, Romania (The Golden
Stag Festival), Spain and Ireland.
Daniel Robu
Born on August 31st, 1971 in Bacau, Daniel Robu is one of the
youngest musical artists of our country.
He started his career in 1990 playing classical guitar and keyboards. In addition
he developed his writing skills, which resulted in the release of his first,
CD titled Another End.
Daniel has also written music scores for films and other leading Romanian singers.
In 1993, Daniel Robu was awarded at The National Pop Music Festival in Mamaia,
with the first prize.
Two years later, in 1995, he represented Romania at The Golden Stag Festival.
It was here that the British impresario David Stones, and the German record producer,
Rolf Wetzel, saw him. They released his second album at Soundhouse Records Studio
in Germany.
