Cliff Richard
Sir
Cliff Richard's, born Harry Rodger Webb, has been a musical icon
for more than four decades. When he burst into the music scene
in 1958, his raw teenage energy was a breath of fresh air. Critics
considered him the promoter of the authentic rock 'n' roll in
Europe.
Early in 1958 Harry Rodger Webb became Cliff Richard. His backing group was named
first The Planets, than The Drifters. They were unaware that in the U.S.A, already
was a famous soul group with the same name. Eventually they became The Shadows.
On August 9th, 1958, Cliff signed a contract with Columbia. His first single,
Move It, released 20 days after, reached no. 2 in the British charts.
Cliff Richard became an international star after he released The Young Ones.
He topped the LP charts with 21 Today issued by EMI to commemorate his 21st birthday.
At The Golden Stag Festival in March 1969, Cliff Richard was a powerful presence,
one of the artists who impressed the audience not because he was a star but because
he shared his musical feelings with the public.
Frankie Avalon
Francis Thomas Avallone was born on September 18, 1940. Since
he was a little child his parents encouraged him to be on stage.
His father taught him to play the trumpet. He first appeared
on stage at the CR Club, an extension of Palumbo's restaurant.
The CR Club was a private business where the owner encouraged
parents to bring their children to make their debut.
The success of another South Philadelphian, James Darren, inspired him to go
for a singing career. He enrolled in a rock 'n roll group named Rocco and the
Saints, which featured another future star on the drums, Bobby Rydell.
Frankie did his first recording in 1958, Dede Dinah. However his big hit, Venus,
was released in 1959.
Frankie Avalon has starred in more then 30 movies as Grease, Beach Blanket Bingo,
The Alamo and The Take.

Julio Iglesias
Julio
Jose Iglesias De La Cueva was born in Madrid in 1943, Spain.
He enrolled in the musical career only in 1968, when he won
a Spanish national song-writing contest. One year later he
was awarded with a special prize at The Golden Stag Festival
in Romania. Before, Julio studied law while playing for the
Madrid soccer team. An automobile accident left him unable
to compete in athletics, and he decided to begin writing
songs on an acoustic guitar. Once he recovered from his injuries
Julio went to England to improve his English, first in Ramsgate
and then at Bell's Language School in Cambridge. At that
time he used to sing during week-ends in the Air Port Pub
songs of Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, and The Beatles.
In Cambridge, he met Gwendolyne Bollore, who would became
his girlfriend and later also one of his musical successes.
He became famous with a song dedicated to her, Gwendolyne.
On July 17th, 1968 he won the Festival de Benidorm with the song La vida sigue
igual. One year later he recorded his first LP at the DECCA studios in London,
did his first tour in Spain, sang in the Festival de Viña del Mar (Chile),
participated in the San Remo Festival (Italy) and shot his first movie: La
vida sigue igual.
In 1978 CBS International signed a contract with Julio, who began recording
in three languages: English, French and Italian.
1984 was the year when he released 1100 Bel Air Place, a collection of duets
which sold over three million copies. The duet with the country legend Willie
Nelson, To All the Girls I've Loved Before, ranked number one on the radio
stations all over the world.
In Paris 1983, Julio Iglesias was awarded with the first and the only Diamond
Record Award ever given to a singer by the Guinness World Book Of Records for
selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist (Spanish,
French, English, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese,...)
In 1984, Julio
became one of the few Hispanic artists to be honoured with
a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His star is situated
on the Southern part of the Hollywood Boulevard, between
Orange Street and Sycamore Street.
In 1988, he received the Grammy Award for Best Latin Singer of the previous
Year for his album Un hombre solo.
Julio Iglesias's most recent album, Tango, was released in 1996.
In 1997 he got the Monaco World Music Award for the Best Latin Singer.
Julio Iglesias' list of awards and trophies is quite impressive. It includes
more than 2600 Platinum and Gold records, and has sold over 250 million albums.
Julio Iglesias is known as a perpetual jokester, one who is sportsmanlike,
enthusiastic, an old-fashioned romantic, an optimist, a devotee of the cinema,
a loyal television viewer and an inveterate consumer of any and all music he
comes across. He has five children; three of them from his previous marriage
with Isabel Preysler Arrastria - "Chabeli" María Isabel (September
3rd, 1971), Julio José (February 25th, 1973) and Enrique Miguel (May
8th, 1975), and two with a young and beautiful Dutchwoman, Miranda Joana Maria
Rinjsburguer - Miguel Alejandro and Rodrigo.
